The sky is falling or at least Washington seems to think so. And because they do, get ready for new taxes, new spending and new regulations. The nanny state is alive and well and if you don't listen and do what Washington tells you to do, you might just get hit on the head. So watch out this morning when you leave your front door, because you never know what might hit you

Huck PAC House Parties August 22nd!

On August 22nd Huck PAC supporters will gather to meet one another and make phone calls on behalf of Huck PAC endorsed candidate Bob McDonnell.  Bob is running for Governor of Virginia.  He has what it takes to be a great leader for Virginia. 

Our goal for the day is to make 10,000 calls to Virginia voters. We are asking participants at each House Party to make a few calls using their cell phones.  You do not have to make calls to attend a Party and participation is FREE.  We will provide the lists of voters names and phone scripts for everyone willing to participate.

First though, we need House Party hosts.  If you are interested in hosting a House Party or want more information please contact Katie Beth Harris at Huck PAC or call Huck PAC at 501-324-2008.  Her email is katiebeth.harris(at)mikehuckabee.com.

Parents Should Raise Their Children - Not the Government

I'm a wife, mother of four, and a professional childcare provider which allows me the luxury to be at home raising my children. I am a firm believer that parents should be raising their children and not the government. That is why I have decided to get involved in politics if only on a small, local level. Prior to being a childcare provider, I worked for a corporation for close to five years.

I Want To Be More Involved

I don't have much political experience. I'm 63 years young and used to be a Democrat. The first time I got interested in politics was when John Kennedy ran for president. However, that changed as I became older and wiser and I have voted Republican for many years now.

This year was the first time that I did more than vote. I attended a local caucus and ended up being chosen as an alternate delegate. Please note: I'm still learning the political language and terminology, so find it difficult to even share my experiences. I would have loved to go to St. Paul as a volunteer for the Republican National Convention, but could not afford the travel and hotel, since I'm now retired and living entirely off Social Security.

I'm supporting the Team Huck because I want to be more involved. Especially now that I have more time. I voted for "Huck" in the primaries and was sorely disappointed in the results. He was the right man then and he is the right man now. I want to support all candidates who share the same conservative values that I hold.

Government of the People

I joined Huck PAC (and Team Huck) because I wanted to be part of a team that would support the values I believe. As I have talked with people about Team Huck, I have been surprised and dismayed to discover how disenfranchised people feel. They are frustrated that our elected representatives don't represent us, don't listen to our concerns and pass legislation they don't even read. They don't feel there is anything they can do about it.

I believe we can and must do something about it. Together we can find and support candidates that will truly represent us. We can hold our present Congress responsible for the laws they pass. We can write, call and let them know our opinions on legislation under consideration. What we must not do is be silent. Silence implies consent.

The final lines of Lincoln's Gettysburg address give us a purpose: "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth". I can think of no better reason to participate in Team Huck.

Team Huck ... What Does It Look Like?

I got an e-mail from a Republican Party committee person who expressed interest in what we are doing at Team Huck. He wondered what that would look like. Here was my answer:

I can't really tell you what our efforts will look like in the months ahead. We want to see conservative candidates elected at all levels. And we want to get people involved in the process ... to make them feel like their opinions matter. We want them to feel like this is their government. Too many people feel disenfranchised right now and that makes your job and mine much harder. We want to change that, although I hesitate to even use the word change.

We are looking for leaders in every county who will help recruit people and raise funds so that we are ready to hit the ground running for the 2010 elections. We are looking for candidates Huck PAC can endorse and promote. Our teams will help with local rallies, with literature drops, with canvasing and the many other tasks involved in campaigns. Last year our volunteers made thousands of calls in support of conservative candidates through online phone banks.

Today Team Huck members were responsible for sending thousands of Red Envelopes to the White House. Next week they will send many more thousands of tea bags to Congress. They have taken part in and will take part in Tea Parties all over the country and are even planning a campaign in July. The enthusiasm and energy that have gone into these events will also go to supporting candidates. Just give us good candidates and we will give them willing volunteers. There is much we can do, but first we need to get everyone involved in the process. I hope this answers your question.

Welcome Minnesota!

We’re very excited to see the launch of the all new Huck PAC website and our own TEAM HUCK pages. Our own Minnesota page will feature candidates Huck PAC has endorsed, events in our state and much more.

Thanks to all of you for being part of Huck PAC and the National Volunteer Team. Beginning today, we will be known as TEAM HUCK and we will grow into a force that will help change the political landscape in Minnesota. We plan to be the voice for those who have been unheard in the state and federal legislatures, making our governing bodies what they were intended to be … of the people, for the people and by the people.

This is your area … a place where you can raise issues and state concerns. We look forward to hearing your voice!

Five Things

So you have joined Team Huck and are checking the blog regularly and commenting on issues that concern you. What else can you do? Here are 5 suggestions:

  1. Encourage your friends to join and support Team Huck.

  2. Make it a practice to attend city council meetings and/or county board meetings. Be informed about what is happening in your community.

  3. Get involved in your county’s Republican party. Find our when they meet and attend. Run for office as a delegate to the state convention. Serve on committees.

  4. Speak out … don’t be silent on issues that concern you. Write letters to editors. Write to state and federal legislators. You might also create a blog and write about it.

  5. Be involved in local events in support of candidates and causes … attend your local Tea Party, participate in candidate forums or town hall meetings, host an event.

In the 1970s President Nixon used the term Silent Majority to describe those who were not flexing their political muscles via protests and civil disobedience. His assumption was that those who were silent were supportive of the course of the county. He was wrong in that assumption. There were many who did not agree, yet were not ready to march in violent protest.

We have a similar situation today. Poll after poll shows that most Americans are far more conservative than their elected representatives and are concerned about the direction the nation is taking. What can we do? We can refuse to be silent. We can begin taking steps to put candidates in office who really represent us.

What are some things you think will make a difference? Please tell us about them.

Congratulations to our Minnesota Team!

The numbers are in for the first quarter of 2009 and you have done a great job raising money to support Huck PAC endorsed candidates. Our contributions were higher than many states with much larger teams and that says a lot about your commitment to electing conservative candidates.

Today I am asking that you consider what you can do to help us raise even more in the second quarter. The strength of the Huckabee campaign in 2008 was not in large donors, but in people like you and me who gave what they could when they could and it amounted to just what was needed to keep the campaign competitive. We would like to do the same thing again.

Here is our challenge to you …

Would you make a commitment to give a Buck to Team Huck every day for the next three months? That doesn’t sound like much, does it? But imagine what it would be if each of us did this? If each of our Team Huck members nationally made this commitment, it would amount to over $300,000.00 by the end of the second quarter.

  • Will you commit to giving a Buck a day for Team Huck?

  • Will you also commit to recruit others to give a Buck a day for Team Huck?

Of course, if you want to up the ante and give more than a Buck a day, we will appreciate it greatly!

Team Huck In Minnesota

We're starting to see some interesting developments for Team Huck here in MN. People who say they are not interested in politics at all are responding positively to the idea of a national grassroots movement to bring their interests to the political arena. Our Facebook group is sharing information about issues, although it is more on a friend to friend level than on the group. (I expect this to change soon.) Our focus has been on identifying and recruiting people to serve as state coordinators and it looks like we will soon have 4 new ones. This will be a great benefit as we recruit people in our local communities and build our base.

We made a great contact with Michelle Bachman's team and expect to continue to have conversations with them as we move forward. We've also been interacting with members of Congress, sending letters of both concern and congratulations when appropriate. Video from Mike Huckabee is posted on my web site and we continue to share the message. (Several blog readers have re-posted the videos, helping to spread the word even though they are not active in Team Huck.)

Why I Volunteered

I've always been an independent voter. If I leaned in any direction, it was probably toward the Democrats. But the Democratic party has moved so far away from my core values that I could not support it or the candidates it fielded. After the 2006 elections and in their aftermath, I knew that I could not sit on the sidelines. I could not support the platform of the state or national Democratic party and knew I had to take a stand. I began to look for a candidate I could support. I wanted a candidate who stood for the things I felt were important; one who stood out from the crowd and was not ashamed to take a stance that was right even if it might not be popular. I found that candidate in Mike Huckabee. For the first time in my life, I donated my time and money in his campaign.

I was disappointed that Governor Huckabee did not win the nomination but was encouraged by his hard work for conservative candidates and the formation of HuckPac to help those still running. I continued to participate, raising money and helping with phone calls.

I have had a dream for a long time of a new kind of politics, where power was returned to the people. I knew it would have to begin at the ground level and build over time. I hoped that someone with the ability to make it happen would take up the cause and was excited when Governor Huckabee did just that. I volunteered immediately for the National Volunteer Team. I can't wait to see what we can do. Margaret Mead is quoted as having said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." I would like to see our NVT be that group of thoughtful, committed citizens.
